YOUTH PROGRAMS

  • The Chilliwack and Fraser Valley Métis Associations are pleased
    to announce the available activities open to Metis Youth Participants.
  • There is no cost to participate.
  • As space is limited please send a list of activities, in order of preferance, with youth name and contact information to the youth co-ordinator, Michelle Lavergne, Michelle_Lavergne@shaw.ca or call 1-604-823-0021.
  • Once participants are booked they will receive confirmation and specific information pertaining to activity.

 

ACTIVITIES

Métis Outdoor Youth Camp

July 3-12, hosted in conjunction with the Chilliwack fish and Game Club. Youth ages 13,14,15 are invited to participate. Please call your community president to apply to attend. Selected youth names will be forwarded to the Youth Coordinator.

Horse-back Riding

Semi-private lessons will commence September 12 and runs weekly until March 6. Lessons will be provided by Three Stirrup Stables in the small town of Yarrow (between Abbotsford and Chilliwack). Helmets will be provided. There are various times slots available on Friday Evenings and Saturdays. We are looking for youth ages 9 to 24.

 Fiddle Lessons

Various private lessons slots available on Monday and Wednesday evenings, with a separate group lesson taking place Tuesday evening. Lessons start in the first week of September and wrap up at the end of March. The lessons will be provided by Arcadia Music Academy in Chilliwack. Fiddles will be provided, and are the students to keep. We are looking for youth ages 10 to 24.

Conservation Outdoor Recreation Experience (CORE) certification course

Come and learn how to be safe while in the outdoors and hunting. The course will be provided through the Chilliwack Fish and Game Club. Manual and exam fees will be covered. All participants will receive a one year membership to the Chilliwack Fish and Game club. Seats available in the September coarse. We are looking for youth ages 12 to 24.

 Possession Acquisition License (PAL)

Come and experience how to safely handle a long gun. This course is required to possess/acquire/inherit firearms. The course will be provided through the Chilliwack Fish and Game Club. Manual and exam fees will be covered. All participants will receive a one year membership to the Chilliwack Fish and Game club. Seats available in the September course. We are looking for youth ages 13 to 24.

Jigging Dance Troup

Yvonne Chartrand will be forming the Upper and Central Fraser Valley Dance Troup. We are looking for students 8 and up with the heart of a dancer. Yvonne will take care of the rest. The lessons will take place on Thursday Evenings from 6-8 pm at the Yarrow Community Center (between Abbotsford and Chilliwack).
